"It is the best of all trades to make songs, and second best, to sing them."
About.
Standing on a wooden chair in Itta Bena Baptist Church, Meagan Rae Mitchell kicked off her singing career at the young age of three. The vocalist from Greenwood, MS never looked back and has been singing and performing ever since. A big leap of faith moved her to Nashville, TN in the summer of 2009 where she now writes, sings, and plays on a weekly basis.
Songwriting is a natural gift she uses to separate herself from the others. Whether it is talk of a broken heart or a lyric to remind you of home, real life experiences motivate her niche for writing. Needing to put her lyrics to chords to make great music, Meagan Rae taught herself acoustic guitar and now has many copyrighted songs of her own. In 2010, she teamed up with local producer, songwriter, and drummer Kiel Tyler to create a 6-song EP that includes emotional melodies and a few to tap your boots to.
Jennifer Nettles and Reba McEntire are among some of her biggest musical influences and are channeled through her music, although, she has a sound all her own. This Mississippi born and raised singer/songwriter has a lot to offer with a beautiful, soulful, rootsy voice that stays true to country music.
Music.
My mama thinks I'm crazy, said I really let her down 'cause I drove off to Tennessee with that no good boy from town. Daddy said girl you better change your ways real fast 'cause a boy like that is a dead end road, ain't ever gonna last. Oh, mama don't cry. Yeah, it's gonna be alright. Oh, I know one of these days mama, you'll come around 'cause mama I love that no good boy from town. Got a tattoo of his Mustang, cigarette behind his ear, and he saves money cause he lives with me and lets me buy the beer. We're gonna get away, maybe runaway, head out to somewhere, baby I don't care where it leads if it's you and me we could hit the edge of the world and fall.. la la la la. He said, she said, everybody's talkin' well, Billy said that he didn't do it. The trouble with that is I saw him sneak a kiss from my sister's best friend named Julie. He's been running with that girl from the other side of town.. What goes around will come back around tonight. Tales grow taller on down the line but you can't hide a thing in the Mississippi moonlight. There will come a day baby, when I'll leave written in these words you'll never ever see. I would send them all along if it made a cowboy come home. I need more to hold than the telephone cause that ain't you. This bed that we made is too big for me to be all alone. But Amarillo is comin' around. But I still need you now. Driving along on 61, I found a disc, the oldest one. Had no idea the power that it held. Songs from the time when you were mine, I was yours and we would drive, I can't describe the feeling that I felt. Cause like a time machine in a moment it took me for a ride. I played that song a hundred times to stay there for a while. Wrapped up in that melody, in the arms that always held me, those summer nights, watching that river in your headlights. You're just some words on But youre just another sad song I wrote down inside my head and you'll live in the box of memories hid under the bed. Another drink, another lie, another love, another time. I had no idea til you were gone that you're just another sad song.
